Guidelines
Solo1 works because people do what they say they'll do. These guidelines keep it that way.
Your card
- Be yourself. Use your real name and an honest photo.
- Only offer what you genuinely know well enough to help someone with.
- Set hours you can really give. One hour you keep beats five you don't.
- Busy for a while? Pause your card rather than leaving requests unanswered.
Asking for help
- Be specific. "Review my pricing page" gets a better hour than "help with marketing".
- Write a clear note, so the other person can prepare.
- Respect a no. People have limited hours, and a decline isn't personal.
Giving help
- Reply to requests within 7 days, even if it's a no.
- Only accept if you can genuinely help and genuinely make the time.
- Come prepared. Read their note and think about it before you meet.
- Be honest. If something is outside what you know, say so, and point them somewhere better if you can.
During a session
- Turn up on time. If you can't make it, tell the other person as early as you can.
- Keep to the time you agreed.
- Give a real hour. Share what you know, openly and practically.
- No selling, pitching or recruiting. Solo1 isn't a sales channel.
- No payment, gifts or favours for a session. If you both want to work together afterwards, that's separate from Solo1.
After a session
- Log and confirm sessions promptly, and only for what actually happened.
- Don't trade hours just to build a balance.
- Thank-you notes should be genuine. They're public, so keep them kind and honest.
Respect and safety
- Be respectful and professional, always. No harassment, discrimination, abuse or spam.
- Keep it private. Don't share what someone told you in a session without asking them first.
- Only use someone's contact details for your Solo1 session.
- If you meet in person, choose a public or business place.
Not professional advice
Help on Solo1 is peer to peer. It isn't professional legal, financial, tax or other regulated advice. For decisions that matter, talk to a qualified professional.
Something wrong?
- If a session didn't take place, use "It didn't happen".
- For anything else, including behaviour that worries you, email hello@solo1.org.
